The Digit-al Dozen does Colors - Orange Dotticure

Hey there!  I hope all my Canadian friends are excited for the long weekend. I know I am because that means I can finally go back to my happy place, the lake.  But first, my final Digit-al Dozen Colors/Colorful mani.  I went with a color I don't wear all the often - orange.  I think the only color I wear less than orange is yellow which is why I fully eliminated yellow from my rainbow this week.  I actually copycat-ed myself today with this mani I did over 4 years ago with a concentric dotticure.  I just changed up the color.

The Digit-al Dozen does Colors - Red Brushstroke Nails

Hey there!  For Day 4 of the Digit-al Dozen's Color/Colorful week, I wanted to focus on red today.  I was trying to use different techniques as well as different colors for my manis this week For today I did a really quick brushstroke mani focusing on red.  When I did these this weekend I believe I described them as "the stuff of nightmares" but, looking at them again, I kinda like them.  They're more abstract than my typical nail art but abstract is good!

The Digit-al Dozen does Colors - Purple (invisible) Gradient and Stamping

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  This is what we call bedtime blogging...or at least I do.  It's 11:54 pm and I should be getting ready for bed but I haven't gotten today's Digit-al Dozen post done yet so today is gonna be a quickie.  My color of choice today is purple.  I wanted to do something inspired by this awesome mani from @teenynails but where I went strayed from the original idea.  But since I never get tired of nighttime silhouette looks, I loved it.  Most of the products I used can still be found on Maniology's website (even though I purchased these plates ages ago).  If you want to do something similar with them you can use the code COPY10 to save yourself 10% on them.

The Digit-al Dozen does Colors - Blue Stripes

Hey there!  For my second Digit-al Dozen Colors mani, I'm going with blue.  And to pair with my favourite color, I did my favourite nail look - stripes!  I don't know why but stripes are definitely my favourite pattern.  Unfortunately stripes are near impossible for me to stamp so I don't wear them all that often.  But a Digit-al Dozen week is worth the time it takes to use stencils so that's what I did for today.

The Digit-al Dozen does Colors - Green Drip Marble

Hey there!  Today is the start of a new Digit-al Dozen's week.  This week we doing Colors/Colorful.  I decided to take this prompt as an opportunity to really focus on a single color for each mani.  So each day I'll have a different color focus, sort of like the start of the 31 Day Challenge (which I haven't participated in for years).  I'm starting with my favourite mani that I did for these theme - a green drip marble.  Actually it's a multichrome green drip marble and I absolutely loved wearing it.  It hurt a little to use that much of some of my favourite polishes but in the end I thought it was worth it.

Maniology Mani X Me Box - May 2019

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  Today I'm sharing my look at the May 2019 Mani X Me box from Maniology.  I have to say that getting the Mani X Me box is a highlight for me every month.  Every month there are 2 plates and 2 polishes and something extra.  I obviously LOVE Maniology's plates and polishes but that something extra is always so much fun.  Maybe it's because it's a surprise (I don't believe they include it in their preview emails) and who doesn't love a fun surprise?  This month's theme is Life's A Beach so the plates are filled with mermaid and beachy images and the polishes match up perfectly.  I did four manis with them to test them out and had no issues at all so my Mani X Me obsession continues.  If you're interested in signing up (you can also buy month by month), use the coupon code COPY10 to save $5 off your first box (which also comes with an Ice Cube Stamper).  The code can also be used on any other Maniology order to save yourself 10%.

Danglefoot Polish Guardian of the Galaxy Collection

Press  Sample

Hey there!  I hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday.  Edmonton has decided that it's winter again so I woke up to a ton of snow and cold.  And what better way to avoid that than by staying at work and blogging instead of going home?  Today I have some gorgeous polishes from Danglefoot Polish to share with you.  I first tried this UK-based 5-free indie brand in a My Mani Box and immediately fell in love and pre-ordered part of the Children's Books collection from Beautometry (a USA stockist with great shipping rates to Canada).  They arrived last week along with the brand new Guardian of the Galaxy polishes.  I was so excited to try them that I put one of them on almost immediately...and then wore it for 2 full days!  I should note that I don't have the complete collection but I do have 5 of the 7 to show you and I loved them all.  I'm even wearing another one of them today!

Hit The Bottle Jelly Shots Swatches and Nail Art

Press  Sample

Hey there!  If you're into nail art, I highly suggest getting a set of sheer polishes and I have a great set to share with you today.  I'm a big fan of Hit The Bottle stamping polishes (you can find my giant swatch post of all the Hit The Bottle polishes I had to date here) so I was thrilled when I saw she was releasing a set of "Jelly Shots" - sheer polishes that are perfect for leadlighting and more.  And I was lucky enough to receive a set from Beautometry, a USA-based stockist that ships internationally.  There's a fair bit of time put into this review since I wanted to see how each one looked individually as a leadlighting polish but also tested them out for a couple of other nail art looks as well.  I've purchased sooooo many leadlighting polish sets in the past (OPI, Essie, Nfu Oh, EdK Soap Bubbles and more - I have an entire Helmer drawer just for polishes like this) and I can honestly say these are my favourites.  With jelly polishes, I've found that either they have some pigment in them that makes them still show up over black (which isn't ideal for leadlighting if you stamp in black, as I tend to do) or they're thick and goopy and prone to bubbles.  The Jelly Shots set doesn't have any of those drawbacks.  They're pretty amazing!  Keep reading to see all the details...

The Digit-al Dozen does Albums - The Police's Zenyatta Mondatta

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  I have a confession to make.  I honestly hadn't even heard of the album I picked for my final Digit-al Dozen mani this week.  I just had the itch to do a gradient and this album cover starts with a gradient so I went with it.  The Police's Zenyatta Mondatta was released in 1980.  I wasn't even 2 years old and it doesn't have that many big hits on it so I guess it isn't a big shock that I don't know it.  But it did make for some fun nails!

The Digit-al Dozen does Albums - Kendrick Lamar's Damn

Hey there!  I must apologize for the poor language on today's nails but it just couldn't be helped.  Most of the albums I've done for The Digit-al Dozen's theme this week are older so I wanted to include a more current one.  Lately I mostly listen to hip-hop music (which most people don't expect from me) and I loved Kendrick Lamar's album Damn.  So now I have a curse word on my nails...it just couldn't be helped, haha!

The Digit-al Dozen does Albums - Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Hey there!  I'm back today with my third Digit-al Dozen Albums mani.  For today's mani I certainly took my liberties with my interpretation of the album cover.  Smashing Pumpkins are probably my all-time favourite band.  They were the first "alternative" music I listened to back in high school.  Previous to this, it was all about pop and dance music.  My friend had recorded Siamese Dream onto a cassette (yes, a cassette because it was approximately 1993) and I fell in love.  Then a couple years later they released Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and I played it constantly!  I even had the ZERO shirt that Billy Corgan wore for this tour (that I picked up at the concert).  So when I saw Emily de Molly's May Polish Pickup polish, A Piece Of You, was inspired by this album, I had to have it.  So while my nail art might not be anywhere near the album cover, the polish certainly is.

Maniology Mani x Me Subscription Box Review - April 2019

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  I'm a bit on the late side with my review of Maniology's Mani x Me box for April.  This month's theme is Fossilized.  As an Albertan, which is a province that essentially lives off of old dinosaurs, I have to admit I loved this box.  Dinosaurs have always been fascinating to me.  This month's offerings have both classic prehistoric dinosaur imagery and some fun 80's/dinosaur combos on the two stamping plates.  In addition to the plates, there's also two polishes (which double as regular polish and stamping polish) and 4 sheets of nail stickers.  Since I had more time to do manis this month, I did a couple more than usual.  If any of my manis inspire you to try out this box, be sure to get your order in this week.  I believe the boxes switch to the next month on the 23rd of the month.  And also be sure to use the coupon code COPY10 to save $5 on your first box, or 10% on any other Maniology order.

The Digit-al Dozen does Albums - The Tragically Hip's In Violet Light

Hey there!  When trying to decide on albums to try to do for The Digit-al Dozen's theme this week, I decided I wanted to do an album by The Hip.  For anyone reading this who isn't Canadian, The Tragically Hip was (and is) the quintessential Canadian rock band.  They never really broke through in the US but that was okay.  They sung songs about all sorts of Canadiana and we all loved them for it.  I saw them live a few times which I'm very thankful for.  I'm old enough that I even waited overnight in line for tickets (outdoors!) to my first Hip show (this was before the online ticket sales times).  Sadly, the front man, Gord Downie, died from brain cancer in 2017.  I know I wasn't alone in getting emotional when I heard the news.  This past weekend I came across a documentary which followed their final tour (after his cancer diagnosis - yes, he toured one last time after getting diagnosed).  I had seen it before but I still couldn't turn it off.  It was like getting to spend a little more time with old friends.  Anyway, I wanted to do some Hip nail art but most their album covers didn't lend themselves well to nail art.  But the 2002 album In Violet Light was perfect.  I had to freehand again but I hope I managed to do their artwork justice.

The Digit-al Dozen does Albums - Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon

Hey there!  Man, I've been a lazy blogger but there's nothing better to get me back into it than a new Digit-al Dozen week.  This week we're doing Albums.  I found it to be a tough theme (most albums have people's faces on them so I clearly couldn't do those) so I put off doing any of them until just last week.  I'm not usually that last-minute with my Digit-al Dozen manis.  Thankfully I did manage to get them all done...I might not love them all and I certainly took some liberties but at least they're done.  I honestly started by just googling "famous album covers" and, not surprisingly, one of the ones that kept coming up was Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon.  I've never even listened to the entire album but it's ended up on my nails anyway.

Maniology M035 Clairestelle8 Collaboration Stamping Plate

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  I'm back from vacation and hopefully back to a more regular posting schedule.  Today I have a review of a collaboration stamping plate between Maniology and the always lovely @clairestelle8.  Claire is definitely one of my favourite Instagram nail artists.  Her nails are always gorgeous and her captions are always hilarious and she just seems genuinely nice.  I was thrilled when I saw a preview of her new collaboration plate, M035.  It's full of scenic images that are right up my alley.  I've done two manis with it so far but I'm so sure I'll be doing more.  I really should have done a neon one since Claire is famous for her neon manis.  I'll definitely put that one my to-do list when I'm caught up on the stuff I fell behind on while I was away.  If this plate interests you (and it really should) please use the code COPY10 to save yourself 10% on your order.

My Mani Box Review - A Tangled Web November 2018

Press  Sample

Hey there!  Oh should I say Aloha since I'm currently enjoying my Maui vacation.  Everyone else is getting a good night's sleep to prepare for our Road To Hana trip tomorrow (which, as far as I understand it, is a full day drive around the island).  I get crazy motion sickness but I put an anti-motion sickness patch behind my ear and have a purse full of drugs so I'm hoping I won't be getting sick on the side of the road tomorrow.  But before that, I have another My Mani Box review for everyone.  My Mani Box is Beautometry's nail art subscription box, always with an indie polish, 2 MoYou London plates and more.  This box was packed with goodies.  Let's take a look!

Maniology Women's Empowerment Stamping Plates

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  I'm currently sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to Maui (woohoo!) and I thought it'd be the perfect time for a Maniology review (since they are lucky enough to be based in Hawaii).  They recently released two Women's Empowerment plates.  Our nail polish community has a ton of great women in it (and some great men as well).  I think it's lovely that they designed two plates to celebrate us.  Since there are so many wonderful indie maker women, I thought it'd be nice to focus my mani's on them as well so I used all polishes made by some powerful women.  I wish I had enough time to do manis with all of the great women makers but I could only focus on a few for this post.  But in case any of you are reading this, we appreciate you all!  And for anyone who is interested in purchasing any Maniology products, please use the coupon code COPY10 to save 10% (or $5 off your first Mani X Me box)

My Mani Box Review - Fantastic Beasts (October 2018)

Press  Sample

Hey there!  Hope everyone had a great weekend!  Mine was busy but fun.  On Saturday I tie-dyed shirts with my family, went to a potluck at my friends', spent some time with another friend and on Sunday I met another friend's brand new baby and went and saw Captain Marvel.  By Sunday evening I was so tired!  I didn't even get any nail stuff done.  Luckily I have a few posts worth of stuff done already so I won't go AWOL this week.  Today I have a quick look at what was in October 2018's Fantastic Beasts My Mani Box.  This is the perfect time for me personally to be checking it out since I'm finally putting in the effort to watch the Harry Potter movies.  I got through the first two in the last few days so I expect, if I keep at it, I'll be watching Fantastic Beasts soon enough.

The Digit-al Dozen does Books - Romeo and Juliet

Hey there!  We're at the end of the week and that means my final book mani for The Digit-al Dozen's theme this month.  I won't even pretend like these were particularly inspired.  I bought this Romeo and Juliet plate knowing this theme was coming up and because my sister teaches Romeo and Juliet in her English class and I thought she might like to use it one day.  I did read Romeo and Juliet back in the day (for fun, not even for school, that's how big a nerd I am) but this is another instance where the movie wins over the books.  I have probably seen Baz Luhrmann's rendition of Romeo and Juliet 50 times.  What can I say, just like for The Great Gatsby which I did the other day, his movies are really exciting versions of pretty dull books.  Not that Romeo and Juliet is dull, but old English just isn't my thing...

The Digit-al Dozen does Books - Watchmen

Hey there!  For my fourth Digit-al Dozen book mani, I have my one and only freehand design this week.  Today I did Watchmen.  When I was trying to come up with book ideas, I was talking to my friend who normally takes zero interest in my nail art but he came in handy this time!  He said "does a graphic novel count?" and I immediately knew what he was thinking.  This was a book I read way back in the day, before the movie was released.  I remember ordering it and seeing it was a graphic novel.  In my mind a graphic novel was a novel, with a few pictures.  Little did I know it was a giant comic.  I've never been a comic fan but this book was great!  I should probably re-read it before the HBO show comes out!

The Digit-al Dozen does Book - The Great Gatsby

Hey there!  For Day 3 of The Digit-al Dozen's Book Week, I did a book I absolutely hated, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Now, it's bold of me to say that since it's a classic but I more or less detested every character in it.  That being said, it's one of my favourite movies.  I love how Baz Luhrmann adapts stories to movies.  Plus the soundtrack is amazing.  So my nails are a mix of the book cover plus the movie, with it's art deco motifs.

Maniology Spring Occasions Bundle

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  I'm back for a second time today because I don't want to wait to share this fun little nail art set from Maniology.  They have a released a mini Spring Occasions Bundle which contains a stamping plate, a polish, 2 sheets of nail stickers and an ice cube stamper that is currently only $15 USD.  Or, if you don't like the bundle, each item can also be purchased separately but the bundle is certainly a better value.  I spent my weekend playing with all the items and can happily say I had no issues.  If you're interested in any Maniology products, or the Mani X Me box, please use the coupon code COPY10 to save yourself some moolah!

The Digit-al Dozen does Books - Harry Potter

Hey there!  For 2 day of The Digit-al Dozen's Book week, I did (almost) everyone's favourites...Harry Potter!  I re-read these books last summer and still absolutely loved them.  And again, was genuinely scared towards the end so I can't imagine how kids feel reading them.  I still need to watch the movies though so I can keep listening to the podcast Binge Mode: Harry Potter.  I have had all the discs sitting beside my TV since summer but still haven't watched them.  I should probably get to that so I can give them back to my sister but I just don't like movies.  I know, I'm a weirdo.  I just prefer to watch TV while I play with my nail polish...

The Digit-al Dozen does Books - The Secret Life of Bees

Hey there!  It's time for a new Digit-al Dozen week!  Normally I'm so incredibly pumped but this week was HARD!  For March, we're doing a book theme.  I'm someone who loves reading but who has always found translating the books I love onto my nails to be a tough task.  But I did my best for this week.  Secretly, I modelled most of my manis after books that just happened to fit some plates I recently bought and wanted to use so they're not necessarily my favorite books but they are all books I've read.  I actually bought one of the plates just because I knew this week was coming up.  A lot of the plates I buy go unused because I tend to have a lot of plates to review but I'm happy to say that all the plates from my last Clear Jelly Stamper order have officially been used...woohoo!  I'm starting off this week with The Secret Life of Bees, a book from 2001 by Sue Monk Kidd.  I'm not going to lie.  I didn't really remember what this book was about so I started re-reading it when I did this mani.  I'm about halfway through re-reading it.  I hope it really is about "bee-ing kind"!

My Mani Box - Cheers To The Holiday (December 2018)

Press  Sample

Hey there!  Earlier this week I said I'd have more My Mani Box reviews coming up and I'm already back with another: December 2018's Cheers To The Holidays.  Again, if you haven't heard, My Mani Box is a nail art subscription box that always includes 2 MoYou London stamping plates, a polish plus other nail art goodies.  I was worried December's box might be too winter-y.  Little did I know that I'd be in blizzard-like weather today.  March 8th and we're getting 6 inches of snow today.  But don't worry, if you decide to check out My Mani Box yourself, you won't be getting winter themed plates.  This month's theme is Birds Of A Feather so I can't imagine there'd be any snow in there (since most of the world isn't as chilly as we are up in Canada).

UberChic Beauty Secret Garden and Cultural Harmony Stamping Plates

Press  Sample

Hey there!  I hope every has had a good Thursday.  I personally can't wait for Friday.  This week has felt looonnngggg!!  But the highlight of it was getting to play with the new UberChic Beauty stamping plates the last couple of nights.  I received the Secret Garden plate and the Cultural Harmony plate on Monday after work and they jumped to the top of my "must try" pile.  I definitely wasn't disappointed.  Normally I don't get things posted so quickly but these couldn't wait.  So now you get to see what I've worn yesterday and today (and the ones I had to do and take off right away so I could blog about them sooner...sad face).

Maniology Fruit Deco Layers (M028 and M029) Stamping Plate Review

Affiliate Code

Hey there!  Hope everyone is doing well today.  Personally I've been stuck in a basement at work all day today so it's good to be above ground and seeing the sky again!  Today I'm taking a look at two of the newer stamping plates from Maniology.  The Fruit Deco Layers plates were released last month as their first big leap into layered stamping plates.  The two plates released so far are quite unrelated; the first has a bunch of fruit images (kinda like a fruit bowl for your nails...yum!!) and the second has what they call "kitchen tile" images that are really pretty!  I did 5 manis so far with these plates (for the fifth, you'll need to scroll down since I didn't include it in the collage) and they're great.  If you've never tried layered stamping, now is your chance.  And don't forget to use the code COPY10 to save 10% off these already inexpensive plates!

My Mani Box - I Love Unicorns (August 2018)

Press  Sample

Hey there!  Last week I got the mother of all review packages from the lovely folks over at Beautometry, including a few months worth of My Mani Box collections.  For those that are unaware, My Mani Box is a monthly nail art box (which you can purchase monthly or at a reduced subscription rate) that always includes indie polish, 2 MoYou London stamping plates and some extras.  I'll have a look at all that I received over the next couple of weeks but for now I'm starting with August of last year.  It had the theme of I Love Unicorns so you better believe there was a ton of unicorn-related items in there.  While this theme is over, it gives you an idea of the type of items that you could expect in these boxes.  I'll have a look at a few of them over the next couple weeks which

Delush Polish The Rising Maidens Collection

Press  Sample

Hey there!  I'm super pumped today to be sharing Delush Polish brand new collection.  The Rising Maidens collection, inspired by The Handmaid's Tale, a fantastic show and book (if I'm remembering high school English class as well as I think I do) just launched today.  This is a collection of 7 incredibly unique polishes.  It felt like every polish had some sort of surprise in it.  There's magnetics, shimmers, flakies and even one that is thermal AND magnetic.  It's been awhile since Delush released a new collection but these are well worth the wait.  Let's have a little look!
