Maniology Mani X Me Box - May 2019

Hey there!  Today I'm sharing my look at the May 2019 Mani X Me box from Maniology.  I have to say that getting the Mani X Me box is a highlight for me every month.  Every month there are 2 plates and 2 polishes and something extra.  I obviously LOVE Maniology's plates and polishes but that something extra is always so much fun.  Maybe it's because it's a surprise (I don't believe they include it in their preview emails) and who doesn't love a fun surprise?  This month's theme is Life's A Beach so the plates are filled with mermaid and beachy images and the polishes match up perfectly.  I did four manis with them to test them out and had no issues at all so my Mani X Me obsession continues.  If you're interested in signing up (you can also buy month by month), use the coupon code COPY10 to save $5 off your first box (which also comes with an Ice Cube Stamper).  The code can also be used on any other Maniology order to save yourself 10%.

Seashell

Seashell is a bright pink creme polish. I couldn't get a color accurate photo of this one since it leans to the neon side and my camera doesn't have a brain for photographing neons.  This is the approximate shade but it definitely has more oomph than this shows.  It wasn't quite a one coater (like most Maniology cremes are) so it doesn't stamp with quite the same opacity as others but it has a lovely formula.  This is two coats plus top coat.

Starfish

Starfish is the first holographic polish I've tried from Maniology and it's great.  Color-wise I'd call it a blurple (in between blue and purple).  The holo flare is obvious and just as strong as the best holos I've tried that isn't a mellow silver-y color.  This one could definitely be a one coater.  It was really opaque but I still added a second coat just to check it out.

MXM007

As you can see, MXM007 is one big underwater scene.  For my first mani, I wanted some simple stamping.  I used Seashell as a base and then did a little stamper marble with it as well as Coconut and Tranceland from Maniology.  Then I stamped the image that looks like the mermaid's hair with Starfish.  The holo is there but not as strong as when used as a base.  And I got some streaking when I applied top coat which is pretty unusual for me.  I did just order Maniology's No Smudge top coat but it isn't in my hands yet so I don't know if that would've helped.

For my second use of this plate I really wanted to lean into the underwater scene.  I used Zoya Muse as a base color and then stamped some of the plants in Mundo de Unas High Green (though you can't really see them in the background).  Then I used Maniology Straight Up Black as the stamping polish for the reverse stamping (filled in with KBShimmer For Sail By Owner, In Yacht Water, Bahama Drama, Leggo My Mango, Lei It Again, Sarong Place, Sarong Time, My Life’s Porpoise, Oh My Gourd, Whiskey Business, Yeti Or Not and Zoya Louise and pipe dream polish unwind

MXM008

I just adore this plate. I like how they mixed in some astral imagery with the underwater stuff.  I never would've thought of that but, since I love all things star-related, I think it's a great idea.  However I went more typical for my manis with this plate.  For the first one I did a gradient with Starfish and Esmaltes da Kelly Laguna and Caranguejo (with no undies, that how opaque they are) and stamped the shell/mermaid pattern with Seashell.  You can tell that Seashell isn't as bright as it is on its own, at least over these darker colors.  Then I stamped the other images with Maniology Straight Up Black and Hit The Bottle Chromeo.

My final mani is my favourite of the bunch.  Originally I was going to do something minimalistic but that's not how it turned out.  I used a base of OPI Do You Take Lei Away and did the stamping with Maniology's Shibori.  The  reverse stamping was filled with Tonic Polish High Tide, Danglefoot Polish Welcome To The Freaking Guardians Of The Galaxy and KBShimmer White.

And finally, the "extra".  This month's bonus is this angled clean up brush.  The handle is filled with liquid and star shaped glitter.  It's a little addictive to tip this thing back and forth just to watch the glitter.  But it's also a great clean up brush.  I used it for everything here and it works wonderfully.  The bristles are a little softer than my ideal but that's a minor criticism.  I've dipped it in a fair bit of acetone and it's still as good as new which is saying something!

That's all for today.  I hope you liked my look at this month's Mani X Me box.  I think this box will be a favourite of a lot of people since no one ever tires of mermaid nails.  And now I can't wait to see what they come up with next!
